IN THE BEGINNING...

​Beyond the Label (BtL) started as a series of educational events, BtL T-shirt Exchanges, in partnership with TEDxLA to educate Angelenos about the true health, social and environmental cost of their fashion purchases.

MISSION
BtL is a volunteer-based project that addresses the question “What's in my tee?” to encourage shoppers to consider what their T-shirt is made of and how their purchase affects the world, workers and themselves.

VISION
Shift consumer shopping habits and behaviors.
Shift designers from a linear convention cradle to grave supply chain to a circular clean (healthy) transparent supply chain.
Raise awareness through hard facts and humor, and by introducing ever-changing science-based fabric innovations.
Create advocates to share the Beyond the Label "What's in my tee?" mission.

HOW DO WE DO THIS

​- Beyond the Label is an LA-based educational platform that connects people with solutions for a clean fashion industry through books, clothing & interactive activities.
- Beyond the Label educates consumers on what to look for in a brand...transparency is key.
- Beyond the Label fosters and educates designers and brands to for look innovative fabrics, alternative ways to manufacture and how to implement ethical, local and clean practices.
- Beyond the Label addresses the negative effects of the global fashion industry and brings hope and recognition to amazing new technologies and regulations that are currently shifting the state of fashion as we know it.

*We estimate that BtL efforts have already diverted 35,000 lbs. of textile waste and  eliminated 100 pounds of toxic chemicals through Beyond the Label T-shirt Exchange Events launched in 2016. We have also significantly shifted the course of 13 fashion design brands including Triarchy jeans. ​

Sourcing at MAGIC - The world's largest fashion trade show (78,000 attendees). Creating a dialog with Eastern Michigan University about I:CO, Recover Textile Systems, recycled cotton, recycled glass, recycled plastic, organic cotton and seaweed dyes.  If you have a question, we have a nerdy expert to connect you with.
